Alive

On occasion (between long breaks), I find something that is post worthy...and here they are: The first fruits.

These happen to be some type of strange tomato that is known for its stripes...not for its taste...but other than the zucchini and squash (both which I detest), this is the first of what looks to be a nice tomato crop. My goal is to make some salsa with the tomatoes and peppers that I am growing to enjoy during many of the BYU football games.

A real man

So, a number of recent experiences has left we with a desire for a gun. Why you might ask...for protection, to enhance my manly nature...sure felt like there were some pretty good reasons before but anyway... After a lot of thinking and looking, I came to the harsh reality that I wasn't going to be able to afford one right now, especially considering that my tastes seemed to edge towards the more expensive stuff. So, to appease my appetite, I found the following at the local big box...and Laurie is still laughing at me. Yes, it is a BB gun replica of a Beretta 92fs 9mm handgun. And I spent an hour in the garage shootin' holes in a cardboard box feeling quite satisfied with my purchase. I walked back into the house and Laurie turned to me, with a funny little smile on her face as if she were talking to one of the boys and asked if I had fun out there... Yes I did. And plan to tomorrow night as well.

The Wild Wild West

As I was helping the boys prepare themselves for bed the other night, I was straightening out their sheets on their beds. As part of this process, I like to flip over their pillows to expose the cool side for their sleeping pleasure. When I flipped over Gabe's pillow I was surprised to find this tucked neatly beneath his pillow.

As the man of the house, am I doing something wrong that causes a 6 year old son to feel the need to pack some heat? On second thought, maybe I am failing worse than I initially thought, upon closer inspection, the semi-automatic rubber band 6-shooter isn't even loaded.

New Post

Not that anyone cares, but I am not dead...just not interested in blogging when there are so many "interesting" blogs to read...translation: Laurie is on the computer so much that I don't have access to the computer to put anything in writing...But believe me, if I did, you would be wowed by my blogabilities.

That's my boy

It is so funny how different your kids can be. Gabe is known at school as the kid in kindergarten that rarely eats the snacks that the other kids bring. He is an extremely picky eater...thank goodness for multi-vitamins. The kid also has a gag reflex that is out of this world. If he smells a food that he doesn't such as exotic smells like bananas or hot grease... he often has to exit the room quickly as he starts to gag.

Then there is Jacob who is happy to eat or at least try just about anything. Tonight he helped me bbq some salmon and he devoured it. On Saturday he was so excited that I bought sushi. The last time we bought it he asked for some and loved it. ...(it isn't real sushi - everything is cooked but still a bit of a stretch for a 4 year old...I wouldn't touch the stuff until I was in my late 20's) I will admit that on Sat after eating a couple of pieces he fessed up that he didn't like the seaweed in the roll and asked if he could take it out. Ok, I guess so.

That's my boy! He was disappointed that I didn't have chopsticks for him to use also. Maybe next time buddy.

when the family goes bowling

After sustaining a bowling injury...seriously, have you ever heard of anyone getting hurt bowling? I pulled something in my elbow back in November the last time we ventured out to tame the lanes. On Saturday with the elbow finally not hurting and full range of motion returned I was feeling up to the challenge. The last outing I was beat by every member of the family...yes even Nate who is 2. It was a sad day for a guy who thinks he is pretty good at most everything he does. It was one of those days where you have to spray on a smile and make an attempt to join in while everyone else laughs at/with you.

So with revenge in mind, I set out to top the family as part of our celebration of Laurie's b-day. Yes, I was victorious...by two points over Laurie. I won't mention the score because lets just say, it wasn't something to be proud of. However, with Gabe opening the first three frames spare/strike/spare, bet your shorts I was sweating it early on.

Gotta love though the opportunities that we have to spend quality time with the family. Wouldn't pass up these types of chances for the world.

Nice form Jake!

The Christmas lights are still hanging proudly

Being the type that cheers the day the Christmas tree is taken down and the house morphs back to some semblance of normality, I am sad to say that I have yet to bring down the house lights. It is hard to believe that January is already well on its way and college football is over. Can't wait till next year to see how well the Cougars do after finishing the season ranked 14th and returning most of their starters next year. I guess that is about it...a boring post but I needed to do something while I sit home from work sick...back to cartoons with the kids.
